Podcast Comparison
On the Flixwatcher.mov podcast they have two presenters and then they had two guests on the show while the other podcast The Heroine's Journey.mov has one presenter and one guest.
At the beginning of Flixwatcher.mov, they play some music for their intro, this is similar to The Heroine's Journey.mov's start, since at the beginning of theirs, they play music and its more of a jingle since it is repeated and plays a bell sound which sounds like a jingle, while the other has a different instrument and is shorter.
The structure of Flixwatcher.mov is it starts off with a short piece of music at the start, which then stops and the presenters start talking and the two presenters introduce the two guests and then they stop to say how you can get them on a certain kind of social media and then it is followed by them talking about what they do and then a bit about a movie, whereas the structure for The Heroine's journey.mov is similar because of the start but the music plays for longer, 20 seconds of it. It then follows with them introducing themselves which is what they didn't do in the other they did it a bit later, after their talk. In the The Heroine's Journey.mov they don't tell you what social media they are on and when they presenter introduces herself, she then proceeds to introduce her guess. Then they both discuss a bit about how a certain marvel film is coming out and then they movie onto talking about how studio ghibli and then a book, going back to studio ghibli discussing the film. Both of these podcasts end with them saying something about the movie and don't have a proper ending but The Heroine's Journey.mov podcast tells you a spoiler while the other ends with them still talking, cutting off mid sentence. Another thing the presenter does on The Heroine's Journey.mov is take turns talking with the guest so they don't talk over each other, whereas Flixwatcher.mov have each of them talk over each other at certain points.
The pace of Flixwatcher.mov is quite slow but it a good listening pace, whereas The Heroine's Journey.mov is fast, but not so fast you can't understand, which is a good pace because then it doesn't drag on or get boring but the guest on their podcast talks at a steady pace, whereas on the other one the Flixwatcher.mov, they all talk at the same pace.
When they are talking about what social media they are on, on the Flixwatcher.mov, they use a calming background, to set the setting, getting the listener into a relaxed mood, while in the other one they don't say what social media they are on and they only use music for the beginning.
Neither of these podcasts use sound effects.
The guests on The Heroine's Journey.mov is interviewed about what they think about certain movies, which studio ghibli has made, similarly the other podcast talks about different movies, but each person tries to at the same time about it, the guests and presenters. When they do the podcast on The Heroine's Journey.mov they do it as casual talk, more informal than formal talk, like an interview. While in the interview on Flixwatcher.mov, they watch the movies that win the Oscars and decide by taking a movie out and they all go watch it, then they give their opinions.
Both of the podcasts don't really discuss much of popular opinions from the members of the public, its mainly just them discussing movies with their guests.
They both also play clips of music, but Flixwatcher.mov plays another clip of music while hes talking.
The target audience for Flixwatcher.mov would be 14-35, since they are discussing the films and they don't warn you about the podcast having certain themes or things they mention in it, and The Heroine's Journey.mov would be aimed at 14-35 too, this is because they talk about films that people around 14 and up would watch like the studio ghibli films they mention or the marvel films. The appeal for The Heroine's Journey.mov would be for people who are fans of marvel and studio ghibli films and a bit about books, since those are the main subjects in the podcast I listened to. And in the the other podcast the difference in their audience appeal would be the people who like to listen popular movie reviews, because they liked the new film that came out, making them want to read the reviews on it.
Flixwatcher.mov tell you near the start what social media you can find them on, trying to advertise their podcasts to young viewers since they might have that social media and would possibly like them on it. But the other podcast doesn't say what social media they are on at any point in the podcast.
Summary:
Both of these podcasts have similar starts but otherwise have different middles and ends, one being better than the other, The Heroine's Journey.mov being the better one since its well organised and they don't talk over each other, like they do in Flixwatcher.mov.
How to make a successful podcast
1.) Having interesting subject matter to talk about.
2.) Having a clear voice so people can understand what you are saying.
3.) Having possibly a catchy start, with a clip of music and then having an ending that doesn't cut them off mid sentence.
4.) Keeping the listener interested by talking about different things that relate to what they are talking about.
5.) Making sure the subject matter is right for the target audience
6.) Having a specific purpose.
7.) Having interesting interviews with other people to get a range of different views so its not just them talking about something just for them, this is so they bring in a range of opinions.
8.) Produce high quality audio, so you can understand and hear the things they play clearly like music or a clip of a show.
9.) Having a clever name for the podcast.
10.) Being entertaining.
5 things to possibly use for a podcast
1.) A film -> Jurassic world: The fallen kingdom
2.) A TV show -> Friday night dinner
3.) A band -> Panic! At the disco
4.) A game -> Detective Pikachu
5.) A comic book -> Manga (would compare them and talk about different ones and different genres each podcast)
XY story:
I'm doing a story about Jurassic world: the fallen kingdom and whats interesting about it is this one follows some of the book and is more like a horror, action than just a science fiction film. I will also be talking about why the film has mixed reviews.
Product: A film
Student Name:
Production title: Jurassic world: The fallen kingdom
Medium: A film -> DVD
Running time: 2hrs 10 minutes
Synopsis: Three years after the destruction of Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grandy and Claire Dearing return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.
Production facts: Steven Spielberg told director Colin Trevorrow that he was interested in having several more films. In april 2014, Trevorrow announced that sequels had been discussed, whixh was that they wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and make something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story. Trevorrow also said that Jurassic world left many possibilities open......
Key personnel: J.A. Bayona was the director. The producers of this film are Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley and Belen Atienza.
Stars: Chris Pratt (Starring as Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (as Claire Dearing), Rafe Spall (as Eli Mills, the bad guy), Justice Smith (as Franklin Webb), Daniella Pineda (as Zia Rodriguez) and Jeff Goldblum (as Ian Malcolm).
Budget/finance: They spent $170,000,000 (estimated) on the film. World wide gross was $1,290,354,745.
Distribution and release dates: The release date was the 6th of June. The distribution is the 5th of November 2018.
Audience/ consumer profile: The rating of the film is a PG-13, but most people who would watch it are people who are interested in dinosaurs and science also people who would want to see how they would move and act in real life, so the age of the audience who would actually watch it is 12-30 or over since people can like the same things when they are older.
Script
Intro music -> 7 seconds -> Of the Jurassic park/world theme
Cue immediately to presenter: "Hello, my names Catherine and welcome. Today i will be talking about Jurassic world: The fallen kingdom, the new film that came out in the cinema not too long ago." Start -> around 6-10 seconds long
Cue to start talking about the film (middle pace): "So lets start off with talking about the Jurassic worlds trailer, also the trailer had people excited about it, but when they saw the film, it got mixed reviews, on Rotten tomatoes it got a 165 for freshness being the people who liked it and a 170 for rotten being the people who didn't like it. But apparently 53% of the audience actually liked it, but i will elaborate on that more later. They ended up making a couple of trailers which shows different scenes from the movie. I think they represent the atmosphere of the movie well. Jurassic worlds trailers was sort of similar to the Age of Ultrons trailer, since they both had a clip of music playing in both trailers, Jurassic worlds sounding like a lullaby, which made it sound creepy, while the Age of Ultrons trailer had I've got no strings on me playing which is what makes both of these trailers similar since they do it in a creepy way, sounding like a lullaby." About -> 40-50 seconds
Cue to start talking about the next part (middle pace): Now back to the reviews, i can see why some people didn't like the film, since in places it was a bit confusing but the reason to this is because the age range is wide, so the film will have bits in for adults, since its also aimed at higher ages too, then they would have bits in for teenagers and kids, since a lot people of like dinosaurs, and these ones look real and not fake. About -> 20 seconds long
Cue to start talking about a fact (a slightly fast pace): "Did you know that the raptors in the movie caused controversy because of how big they were but later they found an even bigger raptor after the first film was released." About -> 12 seconds
Cue to start talking about the next part: "Some of the reviews on Rotten tomatoes were "Although each Jurassic movie is fated to essentially repeat the same idea oh-no, dinosaur! this new era has come up with ways to surprise, terrifying and inspire, which is enough to keep the heart of the franchise beating", one of the negative reviews for it was how they didn't say there was an active volcano on the island but i don't think it should be classified as bad because of this. In my opinion I think the film was really good and i like how it was like a horror film, since if they were around it would be like that, even the trailer presented it like a horror film, with its slowed down theme song and little clips of the indo-raptor, but not actually showing it, just specific parts and its shadow." About -> 45 seconds
Cue to talk more about the film being like a horror film: "Another thing that makes this film like a horror film is the
music they play when the indo-raptor is around, here is what it sounds like
(play clip - 7 seconds). The music then picks up later. The theme for the indo-raptor builds up suspense. They also say in
the film that it's the ultimate weapon and they show off what it can do, not to
mention this dinosaur was a prototype so it wasn’t completed so it could go out
of control. Also It seems like it is trying to make the plot
lean towards the books because they set the dinosaurs free at the end and at
the start of the first book they were free." About -> 34 seconds
Cue to talk about the films impact: "Parts of the film had people on edge since there were jump-scares of certain dinosaurs, one of these scenes was the bit when the lava drips and lights the tunnel and some dinosaur is coming through there and its the only exit and it goes back to being dark, then light as the dinosaur gets closer and closer, it really gets you worrying because you don't know what will happen." About -> 20 seconds
(Talk about the film for 3 minutes - saying different things.)
(Possibly have the music playing in the background if the sounds are different for the films since they are directed by different people, then put the volume louder when you change to the next part of talking about it, then lower the sound so then you can start talking and the music stops gradually) - play the Jurassic world music louder/ or play more of the indo-raptor theme. - 7 seconds
Cue to continuing talking about the film: "Now i will be talking about other peoples views on the film. So i asked around at different places and interviewed the people, asking if they liked the movie or not and most of them said yes and this was a mix of adults and teenagers. And two of the people said that their favourite scene was the brachiosaurus scene, where it gets left behind and disappears into the smoke, like it was going extinct again. The film makes you develop emotions for the dinosaurs, like how the characters do, that's why they are trying to stop them from going extinct again and trying to get them off the island with the active volcano. The people who i asked saying it was bad said that because it was more funny than serious." About -> 38 seconds
Cue to say that its coming to the end: "Its now coming to the end so what i want to just say is that the films start was a great way to start the movie, because they had the mosasaurus to start it, like it was continuing from the first film where it ended with the mosasaurus eating the indominus rex and then they showed you it escaping in the second film and then eating the person who got free from the T-rex trying to eat him." About -> 23 seconds
(if there is time say cue after that:"These were my vox pops and mini interviews", if there isn't enough tim leave it)
Cue to end the podcast: "That will be all for this podcast, thanks for tuning in and I'll see you in the next podcast, bye, bye." - 4 seconds
Cue for outro: Then play the intro music as it plays loud, it slowly gets quieter, then ends. - 7 seconds
Total time for this podcast script: 4 minutes and a couple of seconds.

- Theme for the original Jurassic park (for intro and for the end) - Start from 5 or 6 seconds in the video, audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOpPVJrpw-A

Script -> Put in parts where you talk about a scene and they you add a clip in it. Also add the popular opinion from the people you asked for the vox pops part. The Jurassic worlds theme will be played for a bit in the background. Add the interviews to the script but shorten them.
Interview -> Interview some of the people you talked to and possibly others and ask:
What they liked about the new film?
What their favourite part is?
Person 1 said it was bad because the film wasn't scary. Their favourite scene was when the main character is running down punching everyone, knocking them down in a line.
Person 2 said it was bad because the film was mostly funny and not serious and didn't really find it scary.
Person 3 said it was good because the special effects for the dinosaurs were good and everyone finds them fascinating specially because you don't know that much about them. Their favorite scene was when the dinosaur was taken by the smoke of the volcano because it was like they were going extinct again.
Person 4 said it was good and their said that their favourite scene is the indo-raptor vs blue (another raptor), they also liked how it made you feel.
Person 5 said that they like the film also because of the sad emotion it made you feel towards a particular dinosaur. Their favourite scene was the one where the brachiosaurus was left behind.
Maybe some more questions -> make shorter so they get the gist of it and so it will fit into podcast.
Podcast intro -> The intro will be the Jurassic Park theme, it will start either 5 or 6 seconds into the theme song or it will start from the beginning of the theme, depending on how much you hear at the end for the outro
